Alex Bishop

Alex Bishop is a senior researcher at AIR and project director for Higher Ground’s Restart SMART Initiative Evaluation. In this role, she manages the assessment of Higher Ground’s data collection and reporting infrastructure and processes and the implementation evaluation of their community school’s model. She also serves as the qualitative research lead for evaluations of several 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) evaluations, including Texas, South Carolina, and Washington, DC. Bishop’s research in the afterschool and expanded learning initiatives focuses on the implementation practices of schools and how the implementation of these initiatives can support better outcomes for students, families, and schools. She has contributed to knowledge in the field of afterschool programming by identifying key components of implementation to support shared vision, collective leadership, and robust and meaningful evaluations to support continuous programmatic improvement.

Bishop has experience in education research and project management. In her present position, Bishop conducts qualitative research as part of R&E’s mixed-methods approach to project evaluations. She has extensive training on rigorous qualitative methods including ethnography, grounded theory, and discourse analysis. Her areas of expertise include implementation evaluations, fidelity of implementation studies, and qualitative research methods.
