Carmen Ferro

Director of Communications, Human Services Division

Carmen Ferro is a communications director with AIR’s Human Services Division. She works with division leadership to develop and implement a strategic communications plan to extend the reach of AIR research projects on topics such as workforce development, youth justice, education, and child welfare. Ferro specializes in synthesizing and translating data, research, and evidence for nontechnical audiences, including policymakers, journalists, program administrators, technical assistance providers, and research funders. She conceptualizes and develops written content for practitioners (such as fact sheets, blog posts, case studies, infographics, and electronic newsletters) and multimedia content for broader audiences (such as videos, data visualizations, podcasts, and webinars).

Before joining AIR in 2022, Ferro was senior public affairs manager at Mathematica for nine years. In this role, she was dissemination task lead for several federally funded projects, where she created multi-layered dissemination plans, coordinated press and media engagement, developed social media strategies, and planned engaging events and webinars. Prior to her time at Mathematica, she worked as senior policy analyst with the National Governors Association, as a legislative analyst at the RAND Corporation, and as an aide for a member of Congress.
