Courtney Gross

Researcher

Courtney Gross is a researcher who specializes in standards and assessments with expertise in research and evaluation, quality assurance, and technical assistance. She has more than five years of experience working with federal and state clients.

In her current role, Gross provides subject expertise on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reading assessment. She also supports the development and review of the NAEP platform. In her work with state departments of education, Gross supports states with the social studies standards development and implementation process. As such, Gross has cowritten landscape scans to inform states’ standards development processes, and she has also helped write reports to summarize public feedback on social studies standards. More recently, she cowrote a landscape report which analyzes the state of high-quality instructional materials in K-12 social studies education.

Prior to working at AIR, Gross taught elementary ELA, social studies, and special education. She also served as a primary literacy advisor in Jamaica with the Peace Corps.
