Marlous de Milliano

Senior Economist

Marlous de Milliano is a senior economist at AIR with extensive experience in international development research conducting quantitative and mixed-methods research. She has conducted research on a range of topics including social protection, child well-being, women’s well-being and empowerment, and program evaluation in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. de Milliano has experience with randomized control trials and quasi-experimental methods, developing quantitative and qualitative data collection tools and training interviewers and enumerators on using semi-structured interview guides using household surveys and taking anthropometric measurements, quantitative and qualitative coding, writing policy briefs, evaluation reports and other dissemination products.

Her recent and current project work includes among others the formative and baseline evaluation of a cash transfer top-up program with additional nutrition and parenting counseling in Kenya, an evaluation of a cash transfer program for girls in refugee and host communities in Kenya; analysis of savings group member resilience during COVID-19 in Nigeria and Uganda; a study on parenting for early childhood development in Ethiopia; and an assessment of a food-for-education project in Burkina Faso.  

Prior to joining AIR, Dr. De Milliano worked as a researcher for the UNICEF Office of Research where she focused on multidimensional child poverty measurement, and she worked on cash transfer program evaluations in sub-Saharan Africa as a member of the Transfer Project team.
