In 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, composed of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) deemed essential for eliminating global poverty. SDG 8 calls on countries to promote "full and productive employment and decent work for all" and encourages the protection of labor rights and safe working conditions for all workers. SDG 9 reflects AIR's belief in the inherent link between poverty eradication and universally accessible decent work, where rights are respected, wages are fair and sustainable, conditions are safe and healthy, and all workers have a voice.
Our Work
AIR provides locally driven, culturally competent, flexible, innovative, evidenced-based international labor technical assistance, evaluations, and research responsive to country-specific contexts. Our team includes widely respected experts on workers’ rights and international labor standards, labor law enforcement, workforce development, women’s economic empowerment, institution building and strengthening, technology systems, data intelligence and analysis, training, project management, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
AIR works closely with governments, employers, and workers’ organizations and unions, among others, to develop and deliver data-driven technical assistance and conduct rigorous evaluations to strengthen the protection and promotion of workers’ rights and decent work and increase opportunities for the most vulnerable workers. We work directly with local labor stakeholders to advance workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively, combat gender discrimination in the world of work, and strengthen governmental capacity to effectively enforce labor laws and administer labor justice.
